Why We Travel Slowly

The Journal5 min read

Slow travel is not a trend. It is simply the oldest way of getting to know somewhere.

The case for slower travel is simple: you see less, and you notice more. One place, visited properly, tends to stay with you longer than five places seen through a window.

Fewer, longer, deeper

That is why AURELIA encourages longer stays, and why every retreat is small. A handful of suites means the staff learn your name, the kitchen learns your habits, and the place has room to breathe.

Distance, light and quiet.

Travel slowly enough, and a place stops being a backdrop. It becomes a companion.

Slower travel is also kinder to the places we visit. Fewer transfers, more time with local makers, and food that comes from close by.
